Press release:
Max Ruebensal is a contemporary artist who, in his works, reflects on symbolism, identity, pop culture and the ever-growing digitalization of our everyday lives. After several group exhibitions, the Berlin-based artist presents his works for the first time in a solo exhibition at Kunstwerk Gallery Varel.
In the exhibition, titled “It’s In Their Eyes,” the artist will show not only his well-known, large-scale eye artworks, but also a new installation made on site and many more of his recent works dealing with the theme of identity.
Ruebensal’s works combine conceptual approaches from his past as a sculpture and installation artist with his characteristically experimental and process-oriented art practice. They reflect his attempt to make sense of a world that is changing faster than we can grow into it or adapt to it.
Max Ruebensal
Max Ruebensal is a young, contemporary artist using various mediums to reflect on symbolism, identity, pop culture & the ever-growing digitalization of our everyday lives. He therefore combines an experimental and process-oriented art practice with a conceptual, thematic approach that is inspired by urban culture, the collection of thoughts and the cultivation of our worldviews. Visually and aesthetically, his works are characterized by a bold, vibrant and expressive style that effortlessly moves along the intersections between abstraction and figuration. Sometimes kept abstract, other times combined with traditional painting, the results are works that are both personal and universal in their language.
